Horse racing rocked by Godolphin scandal

Over 20 horses doped by trainer

At Virtual Horse Racing, we are constantly making the point that the best thing about virtual gaming is that you are sure of a fair contest, with no controversy about the randomly selected winners.

This point can be highlighted again this month in the wake of the doping scandal which has rocked the world of horse racing. Horses at Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin stable were found to have been doped by their trainer, Mahmood al Zarooni, who has since been banned from the game.

Twenty-two horses have tested positive in the last few weeks, including former St Leger winner Encke and 1000 Guineas tip Certify. All the horses have now been suspended from competition for six months, and Godolphin has transferred its entire stable into the care of a new trainer, Saeed bin Suroor.

Dettori comeback delayed

Of course, it's not just horses that have been found dabbling in banned substances, as world famous jockey Frankie Dettori waits to make his comeback from a six month suspension for testing positive for cocaine in France last year.

The star, who appeared in Celebrity Big Brother during his time off, failed the drugs test while still part of Godolphin's roster, completing a miserable few months for Sheikh Mohammed. Dettori has since moved on, but must wait for French racing authority France Galop to clear his medical tests before he is allowed to compete again.

With all these unsavoury stories engulfing the sport, there has never been a better time to switch to virtual horse racing, where the results of races are determined by a random draw and there is no prospect of any horses or riders failing any tests.

The way the game works is to that each horse is assigned odds based on how likely their number is to be drawn from a list. Some numbers appear several times on the list, and as such the corresponding horse is more likely to win and will be given odds accordingly.
