Sports Personality of 2013

Tony was up against many sport superstars, but came behind the Irish Lions rugby player Leigh Halfpenny and winner Andy Murray in the awards.

Earlier on in the event, Tony was talking to the host Clare Balding saying that his mind was on another milestone. He said: “I dream about a lot of things, a lot of the time. I am going to ride 5,000 winners – and my wife will kill me for saying that. I don’t know what I will do after hopefully being the champion jockey by the end of this season.”

Although he missed the start of the season with injuries and being in intensive care for five days he feels that this has driven him further still become the champion jockey.

Earlier in the event, McCoy told host Clare Balding that he was already eyeing up another milestone. “I dream a lot. I think I'm going to ride 5,000 winners - my wife will kill me for saying that. I want to be champion jockey at the end of this season, so who knows [after that],”

He said: “I was reading that people doubted whether I was going to be champion jockey or not - it just gives me something to drive towards.”

Tony is an 18 time champion jockey that won the BBC Sports Personality of the year award three years ago. He travelled after riding at Navan but he was never expecting to beat Murray.
